TALLAHASSEE – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and All Voting is Local, with its joint And Still I Vote℠ campaign, will host a Facebook Live discussion on Wednesday, September 9 at 5:30 p.m. ET with award-winning actress and activist Kerry Washington about dismantling barriers to voting by mail.
Voting by mail is safe, secure and essential for voters amid COVID-19. But nationwide, some policymakers refuse to take the common-sense step of sending ballot applications to ensure voters can get a ballot. Nowhere is that more acute than in Florida’s Duval County, where Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan has refused to send vote-by-mail applications to his constituents.
Washington will moderate the Facebook Live discussion which will feature Florida advocates who will discuss how decision-makers are trying to restrict voting by mail in Florida and nationwide and what voters can do to ensure their voices are heard in the general election.
This discussion is part of Turn Up Tuesdays, a weekly, national call to action to ensure that voters are informed and activated to vote in the general election. Turn Up Tuesdays is dedicated to ensuring that the general election is not characterized by the disarray that voters experienced across the country during the primaries, in states like Wisconsin and Georgia.
