ATLANTA – All Voting is Local Georgia state director Aklima Khondoker issued the following statement today in response to Cobb County’s proposed plan to reduce early voting sites from 11 to five due to a lack of poll workers ahead of the January 5 Senate runoff elections:
“Cobb County’s plan to reduce early voting locations is irresponsible and unconscionable – especially in a pandemic. Cobb is one of the most populous counties in Georgia, and voters there already endured wait times as long as ten hours during November’s general election.
“Voter advocacy organizations repeatedly offered assistance to recruit poll workers, only to be rebuffed at every turn. Cobb County officials and Secretary of State Raffensperger must immediately expand their efforts to recruit and train poll workers.
“The nation is squarely focused on Georgia and how we conduct our elections. Officials must do everything to expand opportunities to vote, not take them away. There’s still time to act and we demand they do so.”
