WASHINGTON, D.C. – Once a drama-free formality, election certification, the conclusion of the canvassing process that begins the minute polls close on election day, has taken center stage in recent years. While certification has always been, and remains, a mandatory requirement of election officials, challenges to certification at the local level have the potential to become a top threat as we head into the November 2024 election. In the past few months, we’ve witnessed some election officials refuse to certify primary results in Fulton County, Georgia, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, Washoe County, Nevada, and Delta County, Michigan – all signals for what the fall could bring.

Join All Voting is Local and Protect Democracy to learn about challenges and the legalities surrounding election certification and what the implications of refusing to certify or delaying certification could mean for voters and officials, election outcomes across the nation, and our democracy beyond the 2024 election.
