Michele L. Watley is All Voting is Local’s Senior Communication Manager.
Watley brings more than a decade of experience in political outreach, advocacy and strategic communications. As the founder and president of The Griot Group, she provided a wide range of consulting services including political consulting and strategic communications consulting.
Watley previously served as Senator Bernie Sanders’ national African-American outreach political director in 2016, statewide political director for Chris Koster’s gubernatorial campaign, and the Director of Advocacy for the ACLU of Kansas.
She has been honored by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) as one of the 40 best and brightest campaign professionals under 40 years old, and was named one of Campaign & Election’s Rising Stars for 2017. She is the first Black and the first female practitioner to be honored with both national awards in the same year.
Watley holds a Masters of Science in Organizational Development and a Bachelor in Communication and Public Relations from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She has also studied Public International Law and World Politics at Leiden University Honors College in the Hague, Netherlands.
