Michigan Voting Deadlines

Election Day: November 3, 2020 
Last day to register to vote: October 19, 2020 (online and mail only). From October 20, 2020 and through 8pm on Election Day, you MUST visit the city or township clerk’s office where you live and provide proof of residency to register to vote.
Last day for your city or township clerk to receive your mail-in ballot request: October 30, 2020 at 5pm 
Last day for official mail-in ballot to be returned: November 3, 2020 at 8 pm
Last day to vote early at your clerk’s office: November 2, 2020

 

How do you register to vote or check your registration status?

  • Online, at michigan.gov/vote
  • At your city, township, or county clerk’s office
  • At a Secretary of State branch office. 
  • By mailing in a completed voter registration application

 

How to Return Your Absentee Ballot

  • Mail back your ballot-by-mail as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday, October 27.
  • If you are unable to mail your ballot back by Tuesday, October 27, you should return it to your local voting location or secure ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Find your local ballot drop box at MichiganDropBox.com. You must drop your ballot in a drop box in the jurisdiction where you are registered to vote.
  • Track the status of your ballot at the Department of State Michigan Voting Information Center.
  • If your absentee ballot does not arrive by Election Day, make a plan to vote in-person at your designated polling location between 7am and 8pm on November 3rd. You will be asked to spoil your absentee ballot and cast your vote.

 

Voting by Mail

  • Voting by mail, voting absentee, voting from home, all mean the same thing: your ballot will be mailed directly to you. It is your right.
  • Voting by mail is safe and secure.
  • You have to fill out an absentee ballot application to receive a mailed ballot. Once your application is received, your ballot will be mailed to you.
  • Once you receive a mailed ballot, return it as soon as you can!

 

In Person Voting

  • You can vote early in-person at your clerk’s office or a satellite polling location. 
  • If you vote on Election Day, November 3, 2020, plan to vote at your polling location between 7am and 8pm
  • Be sure to bring your mask. If you do not have your ID, you will need to sign an affidavit and cast your ballot. 
  • If your absentee ballot does not arrive by Election Day, make a plan to vote in-person at your designated polling location between 7am and 8pm on November 3rd. You will be asked to spoil your absentee ballot and cast your vote.
