MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In response to the 10 individuals who falsely posed as electors for former President Donald Trump in Wisconsin settling a civil lawsuit while admitting their actions were part of an effort to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory, All Voting is Local Action Wisconsin State Director Sam Liebert released the following statement:

“The settlement with Wisconsin’s 10 fake electors serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance required to safeguard our democracy. Wisconsinites’ sacred right to vote and have that vote be counted must be protected and respected. Our officials are trusted stewards and protectors of our democracy, and when they undermine the sanctity of our elections, they should be held accountable for their actions. We are thrilled to witness these electors being held accountable today.

“However, we must continue to strengthen the foundation of our democracy and restore faith in our elections. Therefore, we expect the next step to be the immediate removal of Commissioner Robert Spindell from the Wisconsin Election Commission. As a fake elector, Spindell should not be in such a position overseeing our elections. We urge Wisconsin State Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu to rescind Spindell’s WEC appointment and select a replacement who places free and fair elections above partisanship and reflects the diversity of Wisconsin, particularly our historically disenfranchised communities.”

Background:

In December of 2020, in an effort to sabotage the 2020 Presidential Election and despite the Wisconsin Supreme Court upholding President Biden’s victory in Wisconsin, a group of 10 officials filled out paperwork ensuring former President Trump’s victory and submitted it to Congress, the National Archives, a federal judge, and Wisconsin’s Secretary of State’s office.

All 10 indicted in Wisconsin acknowledged Biden’s win, withdrew their false slate filings that reported Trump had won Wisconsin, and pledged not to serve as presidential electors in 2024 or any other election where Trump is on the ballot. In the settlement, the fake electors agreed to assist the U.S. Department of Justice’s ongoing investigation into the attempts to subvert the 2020 election results. Notably, this settlement is the first instance of Trump electors retracting their filings in any of the seven battleground states.
