ATLANTA All Voting is Local Georgia State Director Kristin Nabers issued the following statement in response to Gov. Brian Kemp signing Senate Bill 189 into law Tuesday, which invites more unnecessary challenges to voter eligibility:

“Georgia’s leaders have once again created an election law that makes the election process harder on voters. This law grants challengers more leeway to use any information pulled from unofficial websites to challenge voters on a large scale, no matter how outdated or unreliable that information might be. Mass challenges to voters’ registration statuses force voters to attend hearings just to defend their right to vote and overburden election offices.

“These challenges are meant to perpetuate lies about our elections, intimidate voters, and bog down the local election offices forced to sort through them. By signing this bill into law, Gov. Kemp has opened the door even wider for politically motivated interference in our elections. Georgia’s leaders must do more to protect voters and our hardworking election officials.”
