ATLANTA — Aklima Khondoker, All Voting is Local Georgia state director, issued the following statement on Georgia’s August 11 primary, where machine failures, poll place changes without notice, police presence, and inadequate poll worker training continued to plague Georgia’s elections and disenfranchise exasperated voters.
“It’s another sad day for Georgia and our democracy. Our state election officials failed to make critical, necessary reforms to ensure that every Georgian could vote safely and successfully. The issues that either discouraged or disenfranchised voters were predictable and avoidable. It’s hard not to wonder whether these problems are intentionally ignored.
“We know the spirit and resolve of Georgia’s voters are stronger than our officials’ failures. We applaud the voters who prevailed despite barriers to the ballot. Still, our election officials can and must do better.”
