TALLAHASSEE — All Voting is Local Florida,  La Mesa Boricua de Florida, Iniciativa Acción Puertorriqueña, Alianza for Progress and Chispa Florida today urged Orange County Supervisor of Election Bill Cowles to establish an early voting site in the Lake Nona region, southeast of downtown Orlando.

The group noted in a letter that Lake Nona residents have to travel particularly long distances  to reach the nearest early voting location, which makes it harder for those without reliable transportation or tight work schedules to vote early. In Orange County,  voting early is extremely popular.  In the 2020 General Election, more than 40% of voters opted to vote early in-person to just 16.8% who voted on Election Day.

“An early voting site in Lake Nona would greatly improve the ability of many business owners, employees, students, and residents of this growing area to vote,” the group(s) wrote. “As budget decisions are being made ahead of the 2022 election cycle, we urge you to place an early voting site in the Lake Nona region so members of our community can have better access to the early voting process.”
