LAS VEGAS – In response to the breaking news that Nye County Clerk Mark Kampf will be vacating his position, All Voting is Local Action Nevada State Director Kerry Durmick released the following statement:

“While All Voting is Local Action Nevada has been wary of many clerks resigning since the 2020 election, we look forward to the Nye County Board of Commissioners appointing a pro-democracy and pro-voter clerk ahead of the 2024 election. It is critical for the commission to appoint a clerk who will increase access to voting machines at polling places and also fend off calls for all paper ballots and hand counting, methods that have been pushed on a large scale due to rampant disinformation and conspiracy theories. Nye County voters’ rights depend on a strong appointment. We are living in a time of rampant disinformation, and we want to ensure that elections are concluded quickly, securely, and accurately. The only way the commission can do this is by appointing an individual who will put voters above all else.”

Background
Mark Kampf served as interim clerk before being elected in the fall of 2022. While he has not publicly announced his resignation, the upcoming March 5 joint meeting of the Nye County Board of Commissioners, Board of Highway Commissioners, Licensing and Liquor Board, and Board of Health will include a “discussion and deliberation to direct staff to advertise for letters of interest to fill the unexpired term of the Nye County Clerk due to the resignation of Mark Kampf pursuant to NRS 245.180.”

Kampf has repeatedly denied the results of the 2020 election and has advocated for ditching electronic voting machines in favor of paper ballots and hand counting.
