WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the FBI’s raid on the Ohio Organizing Collaborative yesterday and the growing attacks on nonprofit organizations since the Trump administration took office, All Voting is Local released the following statement:
“The FBI raid of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC) office should outrage anyone who believes in democracy, regardless of political affiliation. For 20 years, the OOC has played a vital role in making sure people across Ohio can exercise their freedom to vote. And it is their belief in American democracy and the power of the vote that has now made them a target.
“We have seen this playbook before and realize it for what it is: an attempt to silence Black and Brown voters and the organizations working toward a more inclusive democracy. This desperate attempt can threaten, intimidate, and keep people from voting.
“That the administration chose to execute this action in Ohio is a signal in itself. Ohio, along with Texas, Florida, and Georgia, has long been a testing ground for fringe anti-voter policies and actions that later crossed into other states. This is yet another instance in which the administration is testing the boundaries to see what it can get away with. As we look toward the 2026 midterms, we must take these threats seriously. Now is the time to make clear: Hands off our vote!
“In America, voters choose their leaders, not the other way around. The strength of our democracy is measured not by how we treat those who agree with us but by whether we protect the freedoms of those who do not.
“All Voting is Local stands with every advocate working to protect the freedom to vote, and we continue our demand that the federal government keep its hands off our votes. We, as both advocates and voters, will not be intimidated.”
