PHILADELPHIA – All Voting is Local Pennsylvania State Director Scott Seeborg issued the following statement in response to Philadelphia City Commissioners’ call for $6 million in additional state funding and legislation to help the city manage the November election amid COVID-19:
“We agree with the Philadelphia City Commissioners’ request for vital funds to ensure free, fair, and safe elections. Pennsylvania officials must take action now to ensure that the problems of the June primary are not repeated, when polling place closures disproportionately harmed Black and Brown communities. State officials have an opportunity and an obligation to prepare now for an increase in voting by mail while also providing ample opportunities for voters to cast ballots safely in person. By guaranteeing the city has the necessary funding for additional ballot return drop boxes and space and time to count ballots prior to election day, we can ensure that every voter’s voice is heard.”
