TALLAHASSEE — All Voting is Local Florida is calling on Florida’s Secretary of State Laurel Lee to fix persistent problems with the state’s online voter registration system. In a letter sent Wednesday, All Voting is Local Florida State Director Brad Ashwell calls for transparent capacity testing and a plan to extend the registration deadline if the site breaks down again, among other needed improvements.

The website has a history of collapsing under high volume, including a pair of notable failures last year. In October of 2020, the voter registration website suffered a widespread server malfunction ahead of the deadline to register for the general election. In March of 2020, the website crashed shortly after the presidential preference primaries.

“To truly fulfill the online voter registration system’s promise of voter engagement, administrative efficiencies, and cost savings for elections officials, it is critical that prospective voters and those who register voters believe they can count on this system to work,” Ashwell wrote in the letter.
