Voting Rights Groups Urge Florida Secretary of State to Extend Voter Registration Deadline to Oct. 16
TALLAHASSEE—All Voting is Local and a coalition of voting rights groups are calling on Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner to extend today’s voter registration deadline to Oct. 16, as a dangerous Hurricane Michael threatens Florida and glitches to the state’s online registration website that began to be reported Monday prevented voters from registering online.
COLUMBUS -- All Voting is Local Ohio announced today a text alert campaign to encourage people to register to vote ahead of the state’s Oct. 9 deadline. The effort reaches 356,659 infrequent Ohio voters by text messages sent to their cell phones, encouraging them to check their registration status, update their registration and cast a ballot in the Nov. 6 general election.
Groups that are registering voters to cast ballots in November are scurrying throughout Ohio on this final day to register for the 2018 election. One of those groups has been reaching out to possible voters in unusual ways.
COLUMBUS -- A coalition of Ohio voting rights organizations sent a letter today to the Franklin County Board of Elections, encouraging officials to reconsider its sudden move to pull back funding for television and radio advertising promoting the Nov. 6 general election and opportunities to vote early before Election Day.
