RENO, NV— In response to Washoe County Manager’s recommendation to appoint Government Affairs Liaison, Jamie Rodriguez as Interim Registrar of Voters, effective August 1, All Voting is Local Nevada State Director Kerry Durmick issued the following statement:
“All Voting is Local is pleased with the recommendation to appoint Jamie Rodriguez to the position of Interim Registrar of Voters. Since April, Ms. Rodriguez has assisted the Washoe Registrar of Voters office as Registrar Deanna Spikula has been on leave. Additionally, within her position, Ms. Rodriguez has presented several times to the Washoe Board of County Commissioners on the primary procedures and processes. She has also assisted the Washoe Registrar of Voters in running a successful and secure primary election. Ms. Rodriguez has several years of county, government, and election experience, and we have no doubt that she will continue to be a tremendous asset to the Washoe Registrar of Voters office – and to all voters in the county.”
Background: Washoe County will appoint an interim registrar of voters today at 10 a.m. during the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting. This appointment comes on the heels of the resignation of Registrar Deanna Spikula, who submitted her letter of resignation at the end of June. After the 2020 election, she was a frequent target of vitriol during public comment periods, with requests for her to be fired and claims that she’s a “traitor” and guilty of “treason” because of unsubstantiated claims fueled by the Big Lie. She also received death threats, and many of her staff quit under these circumstances.
