Carson City, NV – Today, a Nevada District Court will hear preliminary arguments in a case against six “fake electors” accused of forging documents intended to falsely award Nevada delegates to then-candidate Trump in the 2020 presidential election. In response, All Voting is Local Nevada State Director Kerry Durmick issued the following statement:

“Today’s hearing is just the first step in seeking accountability for the undemocratic actions taken by those who engaged in the 2020 effort to falsely award Nevada to then-candidate Donald Trump despite the fact that then-candidate Joe Biden had won the state by just over 33,000 votes.

Given that the 2020 plot to overturn the presidential election results and the subsequent insurrection at the Capitol were just the first glimpses of the lengths President Trump and his allies will go to undermine American democracy for their own gain, it has never been more important that we ensure that the safeguards that prevented the ‘fake electors’ from succeeding in overturning the 2020 election results remain protected. As we now turn toward the 2026 elections, accountability is of the utmost importance. Without consequences for breaking federal law, we only guarantee that these attacks will continue and that the foundations of our free and fair elections will only continue to be eroded.”

Background:

In December 2020, in an alleged effort to sabotage the 2020 presidential election, six officials, including a party chair, party official, former state attorney general, and Senate candidate, met in Carson City and cast an alternate slate of electors for Trump. Afterward, it was reported that they eventually sent their electoral votes to D.C., hoping their fellow party members in Congress would certify their fake slate on January 6, 2021. All six were indicted in 2023.
