WASHINGTON, D.C. – In honor of National Voter Registration Day, All Voting is Local Executive Director Hannah Fried released the following statement:
“The power of American democracy rests in the hands of the people—and the officials who are responsible for ensuring the voice of the people is heard through free and fair elections.
“In a political climate where attacks against voters are running rampant, National Voter Registration Day serves not only as a reminder about our individual opportunity to register to vote, but as a critical reminder that now is the time to ensure that every American has the opportunity to make their voice heard. This day is a call to officials at all levels of government to remove deliberate barriers to voter registration and ensure that every eligible American has the opportunity to participate in elections.
“National Voter Registration Day is especially crucial in states where SAVE Act copycat bills, introduced or passed, would require voters to show a passport or birth certificate to vote or update registration. The path forward requires vigilance and action. All Voting is Local is proud to collaborate with local elections offices, community-led groups, and other on-the-ground stakeholders in our eight states to improve and expand local voter registration practices that are being limited.”
