WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to President Donald Trump’s pardons of Rudy Giuliani and more than 75 others involved in a planned effort to overturn the 2020 election, All Voting is Local Executive Director Hannah Fried released the following statement:
“By pardoning these individuals, President Trump is signaling that undermining voters and subverting the will of the people is not only excusable, but desirable—and that accountability depends on loyalty, not law. The timing—just days after voters across the country took to the polls to cast their votes in local and statewide races—speaks volumes. These pardons open the door to future, baseless challenges to election results and to new partisan attempts to overturn the will of the American people.
These pardons are an alarming indication of the lengths to which the President will go to wrest control from American voters, but they do not shield these individuals from state-level prosecutions. There is no clearer signal of the obligation that lies with states to safeguard our freedom to vote, and to impose consequences on those who attempt to interfere with elections.”
