ATLANTA – All Voting is Local Georgia State Senior Campaign Manager Lana Goitia-Paz issued the following statement in response to House Bill 397, which would get rid of the majority of early in-person voting, among other extreme anti-voter policies, if passed in the Georgia General Assembly:
“The conspiracy theorists in power in Georgia have shown again that they’re not done trying to take a cleaver to elections in the Peach State. The next victim they have their eyes set on is early in-person voting, an incredibly popular voting method used by the overwhelming majority of registered Georgia voters on both sides of the aisle. It gives voters a secure option to cast their ballot while avoiding long lines on Election Day.
“As the architect of the relevant section of this bill, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones wants to use voters as pawns in a game of politics. Jones is a known fake elector who doesn’t respect the will of Georgia voters and is pushing this legislation to pander to election-denying proponents of the Big Lie nationally. This bill additionally takes extreme steps that would worsen Georgia elections by mandating hand counts across the state, withdrawing Georgia from the ERIC list maintenance program, and giving an extremely partisan State Election Board a broad range of new powers over voter challenges.
“Georgia voters will not tolerate such disrespect for the sake of politics. Early voting in Georgia is essential, embraced universally, and here to stay.”
