TALLAHASSEE – Today, All Voting is Local named Governor Ron DeSantis the most dangerous election denier in Florida, as part of its list of the country’s top 10 worst election deniers. The list is a record of the nation’s top 10 federal, state, and local election deniers who currently hold positions of power and could keep eligible voters from voting and block their votes from being counted—all within the larger context of President Donald Trump’s increasingly bold, brazen, and deceitful attempts to claim greater power and control election outcomes before voters even head to the polls. In response, All Voting is Local Florida State Director Brad Ashwell issued the following statement:

“Gov. DeSantis’s legacy in Tallahassee will always be marred by his oppressive voting policies that have only made it harder for voters to participate in elections. A true leader would want to lift up Florida’s diverse voices in the democratic process. Instead, DeSantis has bowed down to President Trump and perpetuated misinformation about our elections to consolidate power and keep voters they don’t like from casting their ballots. In his final year as governor, he should stand up for voters and our freedom to vote in his state once and for all.”

Background on Gov. DeSantis:
For years after the 2020 election, Gov. DeSantis would not say if he thought then-President Joe Biden was “duly and legally elected.” However, over time, he has taken actions that prove he has a stake in election denial, such as “floating the idea that GOP-controlled legislatures in battleground states won by Democratic nominee Joe Biden could appoint Trump electors and override the popular vote,” and creating an election police unit while inviting folks to send in tips on “illegal ‘ballot harvesting,” an unfounded theory peddled by election deniers.

DeSantis has also signed into law a number of anti-voter bills that have made it harder to register voters, more difficult to vote by mail, and have continued to fuel election conspiracy theories.
