LAS VEGAS – Today, Judge Mary Kay Holthus dismissed the charges brought against six fake electors in Nevada from the 2020 election. In response, All Voting is Local Nevada State Director Kerry Durmick issued the following statement:
“Today’s ruling is yet another blow to Americans’ trust that they can cast their ballots and know that their vote is counted. The 2020 fake elector plot to overturn the presidential election results was an attempt to invalidate the voters who elected then-President Joe Biden. Without consequences for breaking federal law, we can only guarantee that these attacks will continue to escalate and that the safeguards of our elections will continue to erode. We know that the 2026 elections are at risk of interference from the Trump administration. To dismiss these charges months ahead of time is a reminder of what’s at stake, as those in power try to control the results of our elections and keep people’s votes from being counted if they don’t like the outcome. Voters pick their leaders, not the other way around.”
Background:
In December 2020, in an alleged effort to sabotage the 2020 presidential election, six officials, including a party chair and party official, met in Carson City and cast their ballots for an alternate slate of electors for Trump. Afterward, it was reported that they eventually sent their electoral votes to Washington D.C., hoping Congress would certify their fake slate on January 6, 2021. All six were indicted in 2023.
