CARSON CITY, Nev. —  In response to the Nevada Legislative Commission voting to adopt Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar’s election regulation recommendations pertaining to hand counting, All Voting is Local Senior Campaign Manager Mary Janet Ramos issued the following statement:

“All Voting is Local is disappointed in the legislative commission’s decision to pass the election regulation pertaining to hand counting. Unfortunately, a growing number of Nevada counties have considered adopting hand-counting procedures for ballots due to the spread of disinformation about election machines and conspiracy theories about election fraud. Therefore, a regulation that allows hand counting as the primary process to tabulate votes only fuels these conspiracy theories and could possibly set the stage for election sabotage.

“Election experts have warned that hand counting may not only lead to a less accurate count  (because this method has been proven to be more prone to error than machine counting), it is also a time-consuming and expensive process. Supporting, even inadvertently, hand counting will do nothing but diminish the accuracy, efficiency, and security of elections and will cost voters in many ways.”
