Phoenix, AZ – Today, it was reported that the Trump administration plans to use Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to lead an expansive investigation using private voter data over unsubstantiated claims about ineligible ballots and faulty voter rolls. This comes one day after a whistleblower came forward alleging that the United States Postal Service is moving to implement President Donald Trump’s executive order to control vote-by-mail despite court orders halting the move. In response, All Voting is Local Arizona State Director Alex Gulotta issued the following statement:
“This administration’s unconstitutional attempts to take control over elections away from states—and use debunked conspiracy theories to do so—have been a failure. First, they failed to pass the unnecessary SAVE Act, and then the DOJ’s lawsuits to force states to turn over sensitive, non-public voter roll information failed in the courts. Now, they’re desperately turning to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) hunts, threatening to withhold funding from states if their leaders don’t comply with their executive order on elections, and allegedly defying court orders in order to continue attempting to impose this illegal executive order over state election processes. The use of HSI to conduct investigations into unsubstantiated claims shows the administration is growing increasingly desperate to find any shred of proof to back their conspiracy theories about our elections in order to control them.”
“Arizona voters across the political spectrum have relied on vote-by-mail for over three decades, and in 2024 alone, nearly 80% of voters cast their ballots by mail. Limiting this tried-and-true voting method to as few voters as possible would undermine decades of bipartisan support for vote-by-mail and deprive millions of Arizonans who rely on mail voting of their freedom to vote. It is abundantly clear that the president’s crusade to take over voter rolls and end mail voting will not end here, and he will continue to push lies about immigrants and voting. But Arizonans, and all Americans for that matter, cannot accept this. We must stand firmly on the side of justice, accountability, and freedom—or risk losing those values altogether. We must defend our elections and call on election officials to stand firm, hold the line, and reject partisan power grabs. Hands off our vote!”
