ATLANTA – All Voting is Local Georgia State Director Kristin Nabers issued the following statement in response to the Department of Justice’s lawsuit filed Dec. 18 against Georgia for access to the state’s voter rolls:
“Georgia is one of the latest states that the Trump administration has targeted because it refuses to bend to authoritarian demands to turn over sensitive voter data, including Social Security numbers. Giving in to this overstep by the DOJ would be illegal in Georgia, as state law protects our privacy and prohibits the disclosure of voters’ full date of birth, Social Security number, and driver’s license number. It is not lost on us that the DOJ is going state by state, demanding unrestricted access to voting rolls so this administration can spread lies about our elections and potentially undermine future elections if they don’t like the results. This is the same president who tried and failed to bully our state officials into overturning the 2020 election results.
“Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and other Georgia officials are protecting Georgia voters by rejecting this gross overreach of power. Voter privacy is at stake, as there is no telling what this administration will do with voters’ personal identifying information. Georgians have a right to privacy under our state constitution, which protects against intrusions like these. Georgia’s administration of voter rolls is already safe and locked in. One of the only things that could jeopardize that is a potentially unconstitutional intervention from the federal government.”
