November 12, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. Voters went to the polls on November 5, 2024, to elect the next president and numerous down-ballot officials in a historic election that will have significant implications for our democracy. After his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Donald Trump’s victory marks a comeback for the former president.

We cannot, however, overlook the efforts by election deniers fueling the Big Lie from 2020 to bombard voters with disinformation, attack methods of voting like vote-by-mail and ballot drop boxes, and threaten certification in an attempt to seize power and silence participation in our democracy—especially in communities of color.

These efforts continued up to and on Election Day, as voters and election officials faced bomb threats, as well as long lines on college campuses and in Black and Brown communities. Voters deserve better.

Despite these deliberate and pervasive attacks, more than 140 million Americans cast their ballots to make their voices heard in this election.

In the coming weeks and months, our analysis of the 2024 election will help us to better understand the challenges voters faced and the effects of efforts to suppress votes in this election. All Voting is Local, along with its partners, will work to hold election officials and those who hold public office accountable to be trusted stewards of our democracy and focus on creating solutions for voters. Our work with state and local election officials and partners to advance fair, inclusive voter registration practices, remove barriers that make it more difficult for people to cast their ballot, and ensure every vote counts is more important now than ever.
