Prior to joining All Voting is Local, Avila worked in the Attorney General’s office of the White Mountain Apache Tribe, closely collaborating with the Land Board Committee on Tribal Code revisions. After law school, she was a judicial clerk for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court, where she assisted trial and appellate court judges in drafting legal decisions related to various areas of Indian law. She holds a Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where she co-directed the Native Vote Election Protection initiative in 2016. She is also a graduate of the University of Arizona, where she holds a masters degree in American Indian studies, with a focus on law and policy. She is licensed to practice law in Arizona.
