Michigan Advance: Medical professionals call for more voting options amid COVID-19 crisis

A voting rights advocacy organization and several medical professionals on Wednesday called on state and local officials to enact necessary election reforms to safeguard public health amid the COVID-19 crisis. All Voting is Local, a nonprofit advocacy group, led the morning teleconference with the media. Aghogho Edevbie, the organization’s Michigan state director, said that amid the spike in COVID-19 cases around the country, including Michigan, that it is important “to expand voting options” and “protect our democracy and our health.”

ACLU of Georgia and All Voting Is Local Georgia Urge Sec of State, State Election Board to Adopt a Commonsense Drop Box Strategy for August and November Elections

ATLANTA – Today, the ACLU of Georgia, All Voting Is Local Georgia, and 23 community organizations sent a letter to the Secretary of State and State Election Board urging them to mandate and fund a four-pronged commonsense strategy for placing drop boxes in all 159 counties. The emergence of COVID-19 added to the decline in in-person voting sites since 2013 make drop boxes vital to ensure that all Georgia citizens can be safe as they exercise their sacred right to vote.

Toolkit Offers Guide to Increase Voting in Wisconsin Jails

MILWAUKEE – All Voting is Local Wisconsin and the ACLU of Wisconsin today released a Ballots for All Toolkit that supplements their recently released report “Ballots for All: Ensuring Eligible Wisconsin Voters in Jail Have Equal Access to the Ballot”. The toolkit offers voting advocates strategies for urging county officials to adopt policies so every eligible voter in jail can vote.
