PHOENIX — The Election Advocacy Coalition, made up of national and local Arizona organizations, is demanding that Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, Senate President Karen Fann, and House Speaker Rusty Bowers end and publicly disavow all aspects of the Maricopa County election review scam.
Both state election officials and Congress have certified the results of the 2020 election. Maricopa officials performed the initial count and conducted a partial, statistically significant hand-recount, as well as commissioned two independent audits by companies certified by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to perform such audits.
In a letter sent on Tuesday to Ducey, Fann, and Bowers, advocates outline the flawed and illegitimate processes of the current election review scam, and note that without immediate action from Arizona leadership, democracy is at grave risk.
“The election review scam is deeply problematic because it is part of a broad assault on our democratic institutions, and is being used as an excuse to make damaging changes to voting procedures and election laws in a manner that has a disparate impact on voters of color,” advocates wrote in the letter. “By supporting this election review scam (and, yes, your silence equals support), you are participating in an un-American propaganda effort specifically designed to damage our democracy and undermine the voices of all Arizona voters, particularly voters of color. To move forward as a nation, lawmakers must focus on what really matters: ensuring the freedom to vote for every American. We therefore urge you to end all activities related to this election review scam and call it out for what it truly is: a failed attempt to undermine trust in our democracy.”
