TALLAHASSEE  All Voting is Local Florida’s State Director Brad Ashwell issued the following statement in response to the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office announcing it would open five early voting sites in the county, including reopening one on the campus of Edward Waters University:

“At a time when lawmakers have put up countless obstacles in front of voters, having more voting options in places like Duval County is paramount. The addition of these early voting sites shows voters that their participation in elections matters and that they have every right to cast their ballots without needless barriers.

“For Edward Waters University and the surrounding area, reestablishing early voting on campus can help prove to students how important it is to vote while also improving access for the broader community. In 2018, the vast majority of voters who used the polling location were over the age of 30, highlighting how many non-students around the campus use it to vote.

“Voters and advocates have been working tirelessly for years to ensure that this voting location be rightfully restored. Jerry Holland, the Duval County Supervisor of Elections, deserves kudos for agreeing to open these five early voting sites and ensuring voters have greater options as to when and where they vote.”
