WAUSAU, Wisc. – In response to the Wausau City Council passing an ordinance Tuesday night that increases protections for the municipal clerk and election workers, All Voting is Local Wisconsin State Director Sam Liebert released the following statement:

“The city of Wausau has been in the limelight in recent weeks after its mayor tried to usurp the authority of the municipal clerk when he wheeled away a drop box off the street. The city council has responded by passing an ordinance that will provide greater protections to the municipal clerk and election workers, which will hopefully prevent other officials from trying to take election law into their own hands.

“For our elections to run smoothly, we need to ensure our election staff isn’t being intimidated, threatened, or undermined by those with bad intentions. This new ordinance is a great reminder that local checks and balances are still in place to uphold election laws and protect the sanctity of popular voting processes.”
