Needs Improvement: Barriers to the Ballot at Ohio’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities

An analysis of voting data from 2018 reveals troubling trends in low turnout, provisional ballot rejection and registration problems. But these barriers are not insurmountable. All Voting is Local together with students and community partners, propose a robust and sustained investment in voter education and poll worker recruitment and training to solve these problems so all students can cast a ballot that counts.

ADVISORY–Students and Voting Rights Organizations to Announce Voter Empowerment Campaign to Tackle Voting Problems at Ohio HBCUs

WILBERFORCE, OHIO--On Tuesday, September 24, National Voter Registration Day, voting rights organizations All Voting is Local and Campus Vote Project will join students at Central State University for a press event to announce a campaign to empower voters and remove obstacles to the ballot for students at Ohio’s two HBCUs, Central State and Wilberforce Universities.

Akron Beacon Journal: Thousands saved from Ohio’s purge of inactive voter registrations

Mike Brickner, Ohio director for All Voting is Local, said his organization supported LaRose’s decision to extend exemptions for some registrations on the purge list but that they do not resolve “systemic issues with ways that the boards of elections are conducting their purges, how they’re identifying voters for purges and how they’re working with vendors to identify who should be on this purge list.”

Text Campaign Aims to Prevent Ohio Voters From Being Purged

COLUMBUS--All Voting is Local today will text alert 103,000 Ohioans to update their voter registrations to avoid being purged from the state’s voting lists later this week. On Friday, Secretary of State Frank LaRose plans to purge 235,000 voters’ registrations -- despite urging from advocates to hold off because of errors in multiple counties that have led to eligible voters wrongly placed on the purge list.
